LeByron " Big Hump" Humphrey

Life’s Journey

Byron Humphrey was born to Beulah Mae (nee Blackmon) And James Wesley Humphrey on July 20, 1946 Cocoa, Florida USA.  The family moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1948. Byron graduated from Cleveland's East Technical High School as President of the graduating class of 1965. He was a star member of East Tech's football team, which consistently reigned in victories over other regional teams. Byron earned a 4 year athletic scholarship to Bowling Green State University in Ohio, attending several years until he joined the United States Army serving in Germany and Vietnam.  After enlistment, he worked for the White House Motor Company which was famous for their laundry machines, sewing machines and automotive parts. He remained there until the company ended its era and shut down. Byron, with his friend and business partner, founded the Easy Rider Bicycle Shop in East Cleveland, Ohio.  During this time, he also managed a few evening lounges including the Teal Lounge and The Equinox, both located in Cleveland.  As time went on, he became the sole owner of the Easy Rider Bike Shop and founded a small deli named The Big 40 right next door. Every year, for Byron's birthday, he gave away one girl's bike and one boy's bike to the neighborhood children.  He kept the area in sales and repairs for decades gratuitously. Although he legally changed his name to LeByron his AKAs included "Big Hump" and Old Granddad (O.G.).  LeByron was famous for his handsome appearance as his tall stature was met with his stylish "handlebar mustache" which later became graced with salt and pepper hues. LeByron was friendly and outspoken as he remains virtually unmatched in wit and in knowledge. He could cover any topic in conversations.  LeByron was the 9th of 12 children, four which joined the Lord prior to his birth and in later years 3 of the remaining 8 preceded him in death; Trina Davis (1980) John Sullins (2010) and Winifred Humphrey Armstrong (2013).  He is survived by brothers Frank Sullins, Jr. (Loretta) and Winston Davis (Cynthia) and sisters, Patricia Sullins Dempsey (Louis) and Beulah Sullins Menefee (David Sr.) as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
