Lenard Ronald Butler Sr. was born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 22, 1933, to Samuel Butler and Gladys
(Martin) Butler. He graduated from East Technical High School in 1952. Lenard attended Cleveland State University and studied Computer Science.
In 1953, he enlisted in the United States Army and served as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Braggs. He was employed and retired as a special delivery carrier for the United States Postal Service. After retirement, he became a member of the American Legion District 13-Post 315.
Lenard will be forever remembered by his wife and best friend Pearl. They lived a wonderful life and were a role model for many. Most family and friends referred to him by his longtime nickname, “Date”.
Lenard departed on January 11th, 2019 He is survived by his wife, Pearl, and children: Adrienne, Sharon, Tajuana (Charles), Anthony, Denise and Lenard Jr.: Ten grandchildren as well as 4 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his two older brothers Clifford k. Butler and Richard J. Butler. He leaves to mourn siblings, Donald (Myrtle), Lois, Carolyn (Michael), James (Karen) & Karen. Sister-in-law, Frances, Brother-in-law, John, along with a host of relatives and loving friends.
Lenard was a member of Lane Metropolitan Church. He is remembered today by his wisdom and wealth of knowledge, many turned to him for advice. He was always willing to help, and offer guidance and encouragement and was known as a jack-of-all-trades. He was honest and loving and consistently displayed a calm welcoming demeanor. He was a Great husband, father, and friend. We were blessed to have him in our lives.
