Mary Catherine Blackmon was born on December 27, 1935 to Walter Lee Blackmon and Birdia Mae Blackmon, in Ozark, Alabama. To their union seven children were born, James Blackmon (deceased), Pete Blackmon (deceased), Mary Lee Jones, Flora Crittenden, Daisy Polly Blackmon (deceased), Lillie Pearl Blackmon (deceased), and Mary Catherine Blackmon (deceased).
Mary Catherine Blackmon has accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Cleveland, Ohio; Rev. Dr. Stephen Rowan was her pastor. She enjoyed church and singing in the choir as a youth. Mary also sung in a quartet gospel singing group with her sisters in church and on the radio in Ozark, Alabama. They were called the Blackmon Sisters.
In 1955, Mary Catherine Blackmon married Abraham Smith, in Ozark Alabama. To their union six children were born. Rosemary Hughes, Abraham Smith Jr. (deceased), Johnny Smith (deceased), Archie Lee Smith (Melna), Jimmie Dean Smith (Tanya), and Bobby Leon Smith (Tania).
Mary Catherine Blackmon worked for the Cleveland Metropolitan School System until retirement. Mary Catherine Blackmon enjoyed cooking, sewing, baking for people, crocheting, and she kept and immaculate house. Mary was very supportive to her husband and children. Mary was a sharp dresser and loved to keep her hair and nails looking good.
Mary was a quiet lady, when she gave advice, she would often say; life is short, do what is best for you, and you can do bad by yourself. Mary Catherine Blackmon leaves to cherish her loving memory a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many treasured friends.
She was truly loved!
