Milton Thomas Sr. Obituary

Milton Lewis Thomas Sr. was born on March 1, 1931 to the late Baylee and Roberta Thomas in Ozark, Alabama.  He peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 21, 2018.

Milton spent his childhood years in Skipperville, Alabama. He enjoyed going to church and singing in the choir.  He was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church where he remained a faithful member for many years.  He graduated from Ozark High School and moved to Cleveland, Ohio several years later.

In 1955, Milton married the love of his life the late Delores Thomas (Blackman) and together they raised four beautiful children, (Milton, Marvin, Mary (deceased) and Myra).  Milton worked as a full-time mechanic for the Yellow Cab Company and retired after nearly 30 years of dedicated service.

Milton was a gospel singer with a beautiful voice.  He often sang his favorite song “Nearer My God to Thee” at gospel concerts and at home with his family.  Over the years, he became a member of multiple gospel groups, The Gospel Hebrews, The Modernaires  Gospel Singers and The Royal Jubiliee Singers.  Milton wrote and co-wrote songs such as “JESUS IS ALL OVER ME” and “I’M ON MY WAY.”

His enjoyed helping people.  After he retired from his job, he could be seen helping others at the neighborhood gas station that his friend owned, or giving people rides where ever they needed to go.

Milton was an avid church goer and never missed an event or opportunity to sing.  Up until his death he was a devoted member of Green Grove Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio.

Milton has joined his wife (Delores Thomas), daughter (Mary Thomas) parents (Baylee and Roberta Thomas) and siblings (Richard, Roosevelt, Leon, and Betty) who proceeded him in death.  He is survived by three children, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Children: Milton Thomas Jr., of Randolph, MA, Marvin Thomas (Tina) of Atlanta, GA, and Myra Henderson (Harold) of Woodmere, OH. Grandchildren: Tiffany Holloway, Marcus Thomas, Stephanie Thomas, Harold Henderson Jr., and Jaidah Thomas. Great Grand Children: Maison Thomas and Kyren Mayfield.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
