Sherrell Andre Mattis

Sherrell (Rell) Andre Mattis was born on September 17,1991 at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio to Lisa Mattis and Sherrell Wilson.

Rell attended Cleveland Public Schools and graduated from Job Corps in May 2011 with his High School Diploma. He worked as a dishwasher at Tom’s Catering before his passing and was looking forward to his new position with Amazon.

Rell had a compelling smile and could be found doing many adventurous things. He was a risk taker, a finesser, hard headed and rebellious at times. He was often misunderstood and had a hard time expressing his feelings, but he had a good heart. 

Rell had a deep passion for mentoring the youth that was evident when you saw him interacting with his nieces, nephews and little cousins but this love reached it’s peak when he had his children. His daughter Safiya who was the light of his life and his son Messiah who was his pride and joy. Rell and his daughter had a bond that was unmatched. They were inseparable when you saw one, you saw the other. He was a great dad and provider.

Rell transitioned into eternal rest on January 10, 2019 at University Hospital in Cleveland OH. He will truly be missed and cherished by all who loved him. He is preceded in death by his great-grandmother Ruth Mattis and grandfather George Wilson.

His memory will forever live on in the lives of those who love him; parents Lisa Mattis and Sherrell Wilson, children: Safiya Mattis and Maceo Messiah Bowling- Mattis, grandparents: Sandra Mattis and Doris Williams (Michael), Siblings: Qurdell Mattis (Tina), Terrell Cruz, Andre Cordero, Mercedes Colon, William Johnson, Gabrella Wilson Aunts: Michelle Mattis, Laverne Mitchell, Javone Wilson and Nancy Wilson Uncles: Reese Mattis (Rhonda), Geroge Wilson Jr and Wellington Wilson. A host of great- aunts and uncles, cousins, family and friends.
