Simon Rutledge, Sr was born on April 7th, 1934 in Silver Run, Alabama. He was the
7th of 12 children born to Curtis and Cora Rutledge.
Simon attended Silver Run Elementary School and Jennifer High School. He
accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age at the Sweet Home
Baptist Church.
He later moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan where he was employed as a cook at the
Michigan Union for several years.
In 1957 he moved to Cleveland, Ohio and began working at Suburban Hospital
also as a cook. It was there where he met and later married Betty Lee Lewis. In
1966 he began working at Ferro Engineering and was employed with that
company for 21 years.
In 1988, he was hired at Cleveland Thermal Energy and worked there until he
retired in 1997.
In his spare time, Simon loved to fish, make surprise visits to his family and
faithfully attend his family reunions where laughed and joked and was often the
center of attention.
Simon was preceded in death by his parents Curtis and Cora Rutledge. Four
sisters: Martha, Hattie, Albuma and Kathlene. And two brothers: Clifford and
Adam
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 52 years Betty. One son Simon,
Jr (Tandra); two grandsons Malcolm and Matthew of Chicago, IL. Three sisters:
Juanita Peteet and Rebecca Kennedy of Ypsilanti, MI and Julia (James) Refour of
Kissimmee, FL along with two brothers Osborn Rutledge of Silver Run, AL and
John (Bessie) Rutledge of Dayton, OH along with a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends.
