Ms. Vanessa Arleen Walker (Nee Battle) affectionally known as “Sissy”, was called to eternal rest on July 30, 2019.
Born on July 19, 1953 to Joseph and Josephine Battle in Portsmouth, Virginia. In a union with Kenneth D. Walker, Vanessa moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1975 where she would reside for the remainder of her life. Her journey has been fulfilled with fond memories by those who were touched by her and understood the quality of her natural presence and unique zest for life. Her gentle smile, friendship, and genuine love brought so much joy to her family, friends, co-workers and even strangers. As many of us know, she was a master of everything she touched because she did it with all of her heart. Her love was explicitly demonstrated in her parenting, smiles, hugs, caring, cooking, “cleaning”, being a spouse and last but not least a good friend. In all her wonderful accomplishments, we would be remised if we did not mention her faithful service and retirement from Case Western Reserve University.
Vanessa was preceded in death by her parents and is survived and cherished by three loving brothers;
William “TC”, Kevin (Cheryl), and Thedore.
Wonderful mother to two daughters, LaDonna (Steven), and Melanie (Anthony); two sons,
Kenneth D. Jr. (Andrea), and Rondale (Kelsie), long-time friends Julius, and Doug; a host of friends and relatives; seventeen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and a fabulous circle of “sister-girlfriends” (Gwen, Holly, Aunt Kim, Neicy, Peanut, Regina, Roma, Vanessa, Vivian)… (not enough paper to annotate).
Although she has gone home to be with the Lord, she would not want us to focus on her “present” physical departure, but keeping her “presence” alive in our hearts, minds and memories. She may be physically gone, but never forgotten; because the impact of her existence created a lasting impression that “we will be forever grateful she has been a part of our lives”.
