Benny’s Journey
Benny Hutcherson, a man who built a foundation of warmth and empathy, was accepted into the arms of our Lord and Savior on March 28, 2025, at the age of 88.
Born on February 2, 1937, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Evelyn Hutcherson and Oscar Ward, Benny gave his life to Christ at an early age. He attended Second Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church and lived a life marked by kindness and gentleness.
Benny served his country as a member of the United States Army, where he developed a strong sense of discipline and duty that he carried with him throughout his life. After his military service, Benny worked as a Supervisor for the United States Postal Service, retiring after over 30 years of dedicated service. He was known for his exceptional leadership and commitment, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and superiors. His contributions to the Postal Service were invaluable, and his legacy continues to inspire those who knew him.
Benny enjoyed fishing, running numbers, playing the lottery and taking care of his “senior citizens.” However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
Preceding him in death were his loving wife Mattie, three children: Benny, Barbara & Leroy, and his four siblings: Oscar, Johnny, Robert & Ollie.
Benny is survived by his daughter Frances, son Thomas Erl’, 13 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
