Bobbie Avery Obituary

Bobbie Louretha Avery was born on September 20, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri to Adell Wilson and Louie Briggs. She spent her childhood in Fargo, Arkansas, where she attended the Brinkley Public Schools, graduating from Marian Anderson High School in 1960. Upon graduation she enrolled in Arkansas Agricultural, Mechanical & Normal College (now UAPB) in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where she majored in Business Education. In the early 1970’s she met Andre Avery, who was stationed in the U.S. Air Force in Blytheville, Arkansas. They married in the late 1970s and after several years moved to his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. Their son, Keon Avery, was born in August of 1980. She received her Master of Education from Cleveland State University in 1980. Bobbie worked in the Cleveland Public School System for many years and retired in 2011.

She leaves her cherished family: son, Keon Avery; dear friend-daughter, Dionna Hammett; grandchildren, Sharmya, Andre, and Emerii Avery; devoted dog companion, Boss; sister, Yvonne Willis; brother, Charles Briggs; niece, Kellie Willis (Montague Simmons); and extended family members, friends and colleagues. She will be remembered for her dedication to her family and for empowering children through education, as well as her sense of style.
