Clarence Matthews was born in Cleveland Ohio on April 30th, 1942. To Robert Jamar Mathews and Alice (Tripp) Matthews (both deceased).
He was the fifth child born to this marriage.
Two days before turning 80, Clarence peacefully departed his life on Thursday, April 28th, 2022.
At Ames Family Hospice House, in Westlake Ohio.
Clarence would later add a second “ t” to his last
name in 1958, he married Minnie Bell Becks (deceased) at an early age.
Nine children were born to this Marriage,
Sharon Porter (Precious) Clarence (Rollie)
Earl (Bubby) Darlene, Eric, Kimberly, Anthony, Andrea
And Michelle.
On June 7th, 1997 he married Norma Jackson (deceased).
Norma’s son Kristian Jackson became his bonus child.
Clarence attended Greater Abyssinia Baptist Church, in Cleveland Ohio, where he was baptized at an early age.
Later he attended Our Redeemer Missionary Baptist Church, in Cleveland, Ohio.
Clarence loved to fish and spent many hours on Lake Erie, he also loved to listen to his Oldies but Goodies music.
He loved the Temptations, and his favorite song
Have you seen Her by the Chi-lites.
He loved a good party. He also loved a good Western movie.
As an adult, his wife and sister - in laws put him to work as a Prep Chef for their soup making marathon.
He attended Cleveland Public School and was a graduate of Glenville High School.
He worked as a Porter for the Railroad. He worked for the city of Cleveland, Ohio.
Clarence did freelance work: maintenance, repairs, landscaping, house painting (interior and exterior).
Clarence was rarely seen without wearing a hat.
Affectionately known as “Pops” by his oldest son Rolly. Clarence's pet name for many was “BabyCakes”
Clarence was preceded in death by (daughter) Sharon Porter; and sons Clarence “Rollie” and Anthony Matthews.
Brothers, Robert “ Bobby” Mathews, Harold “Tiny”
and Keith Jamar; sister Delores “Lois” Garner;
Grandmother, Annie Bell Coleman.
Leaving to mourn his passing and continuing out his
Legacy and his story; Sons Earl and Eric
Daughters; Darlene, Kimberly (Don) Andrea (Angelo)
Michelle (Melvin); Sisters Constance Hulsinger and
Joyce Decluett (Kathy)
He also leaves to Mourn 30 Grandchildren and
50+ Great Grandchildren and 17 Great Great grandchildren. And a host of relatives and friends.
He will be forever in our hearts and memories.
