Obituary

Tommie was called home on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 after years of battling several illnesses. Tommie Louis Billingsley aka Shane was born July 14,1938 to Jeanette and Clark Billingsley in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The town where they lived and grew up in was called Holt, Alabama where Tommie thrived and was a football star at Holt High School. Tommie was the eldest of his siblings whom he loved dearly, even if not often told. After graduating from high school, Tommie joined the United States Air Force. He then met the love of his life Mary L. Billingsley who preceded him in death on January 27, 2020.

On April 25, 1959, Tommie and Mary were married, a union which lasted almost 61 years. Tommie and Mary knew each other all of their lives beginning when they were just toddlers playing together on a porch. In the late 1950's, they moved from Holt, Alabama to Cleveland, Ohio where they were blessed with four children. Tommie was known as “the mailman” although he held several other jobs, he worked for the United States Post Office for almost 40 years. The greatest thing about Tommie was he was a great listener, even when you didn't think he was listening.

He was a man not easily swayed and stood his ground. Tommie was a faithful member of Pentecostal Church of Christ where he served as the Arch Deacon for many years under the leadership of Bishop Jesse Delano Ellis.

Tommie leaves to mourn him three children, Dwayne V. Billingsley (Geraldine), Boston, Massachusetts; Christopher Billingsley (Judy) Phoenix, Arizona; Terri L. Billingsley (Cleveland Heights, Ohio), and Eric Billingsley (preceded him in death); Six grandchildren: Cynara Robinson (James), Dwayne Billingsley Jr. (preceded him in death), Anthony Billingsley (Phoenix, Arizona), Christopher L. Billingsley (Columbus, Ohio), Yvonne Billingsley (Phoenix, Arizona), and Allegra Billingsley – McCall (Cleveland Heights, Ohio). Siblings: David Lee Billingsley, Buffalo, New York; Clark Edward Billingsley Jr., Bedford Heights, Ohio; Eric Billingsley (Serena), Cleveland, Ohio; Tammi Billingsley, Cleveland, Ohio; William Billingsley, Bessemer, Alabama; Cousin Charles “Chuck” Jones (Cassandra),Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Cousin; Willie “Pop” Brown, Belmont, North Carolina.
