She got involved when she had her last child Donna Demore. She started volunteering in the classroom at Garden Valley Head Start. She graduated from Tri-C and worked as a Head Teacher at Community United Head Start for ten plus years.
Eleanor decided to retire due to health issues. Almost 20 years later, she decided to assist Denise(daughter) with her Home Day Care. She decided to become her substitute teacher, where she assisted her when needed for over 10 years.
Eleanor loved being around children, that made her day. She had a big heart for children, she took care of her sisters’ children when some of them became ill. She took them into her home as they were her own children.
Eleanor accepted Christ at an early age. As a child, she grew up going to Mt. Sinai Baptist Church and later transitioned to attending Saint Catherine’s Catholic Church, where she raised her children. Eleanor faith and belief in God carried her though this point of time in her life. Eleanor was a strong and very independent woman. She enjoyed cooking, reading and being with family.
When Eleanor became ill, she had to be transferred from her apartment to a Nursing home. She didn’t transition well. She kept becoming ill, in and out of the hospital. The family of Eleanor decided it was best for Eleanor to come home. She spent her last days at the home she raised her children in, the home she formed so many good memories in. She loved being around her family where she felt comfortable. She departed her life peacefully in her sleep on January 26, 2024.
She leaves to cherish her memories: One son (Marcus Beasley), two daughters (Denise Beasley-Merritt and Donna Demore). One son-in-law (Robert Merritt Jr). A host of Nieces and Nephews; great niece and great nephews. Grandchildren: Renita Lewis, Marketta Washington, Marquetta Turner, Robert Beasley, Marcus Shy, Robin Merritt and Heaven Haynes.
