Ethel Goodwin Obituary

Ethel Lee Goodwin was born on February 18th, 1934, to Frank Wade & Lula Larkin Wade in Belzoni, Mississippi. She was educated by the Humphrey County Public School System and she accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at Daybreak Baptist Church in Belzoni, Mississippi.  She was joined in marriage to C. L. Banks and this union produced 3 Boys and 4 Girls.  She loved being able to work and help provide for her children.  She traveled wherever she was needed and her favorite place she worked was in Miami, Florida.   She came to Cleveland, Ohio in 1959 to join her Aunts & Uncles already living there to build a better life for her children.  She was later joined in marriage to Hoover Goodwin who preceded her in death in 1985, and no children were produced from this marriage. She loved to read, dance and listen to music.  Ethel always loved being dressed to the nines with matching jewelry and shoes.  She enjoyed making jewelry and made several pieces for family and friends.  She also loved reading her Bible daily.  She joined St. Teresa Holiness Science Church in 1977, under Reverend Dr. Jeannie Benson Vaughn and served on the Usher Board for many years.  She loved her church family and especially loved listening to the Mass Choir sing.  She remained a member of St. Teresa under current Pastor & Overseer Reverend Theresa Hatcher until her death.  In 2010, she decided to be adventurous and moved to Dallas, TX to live with her daughter Marlene and Grandson Joshua.  Her favorite thing to do was to cook breakfast for Joshua when he was home from college.  In 2017, after suffering a stroke, and thankfully healing quickly, she decided she wanted to return home to Cleveland to live out her days.  She departed her earthly home on Tuesday, May 25th, 2021 at 9:15 pm under the loving care of her devoted nephew & niece Frank & Alma Sharon Banks who were by her side holding her hand as she took her last breath.  She was preceded in death by her two sons Frank & Jesse Banks and by her daughters Mary Lavon Pearson and Louris Jean Ogsby, and all of her beloved siblings.  She leaves to mourn her son Charles L. Banks (Gwendolyn) of Cleveland, Ohio and her son in law Raymond L. Ogsby of Austin, Texas.  Her daughters Dora L. Barnett of Cleveland, Ohio and Marlene E. Sanders (Keith Ferrand) of Dallas, Texas.  Her beloved nephew Reverend Leroy Banks, Sr. and Niece Lorice Banks of Cleveland, Ohio.  Her grandchildren Tonia M. Campbell, Robert M. Barnett, Ja’nee M. Barnett (Willie Hammond) of Cleveland, Ohio and Joshua K. Sanders of Lubbock, Texas.  Her Great grandchildren Joshalyn D. Campbell, Iesha Barnett, Ileasia Barnett, Tonnisha Barnett, Johnny Barnett, and Aleya Hammond and Great Great Grandson J’onte Addision of Cleveland, Ohio.  She also leaves to mourn a host of other great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
