George Granville Obituary

With love and gratitude, we remember and celebrate the life of George “Butchie” Granville, who passed away on January 26, 2026, at the age of 57.

Butchie was born on December 12, 1968, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Annie Lee Granville and George “Logan” Granville, both of whom preceded him in death. Cleveland was not only his birthplace but his lifelong home city that shaped him and that he loved deeply.

Butchie grew up surrounded by a large and loving family. He was blessed to share life not only with his biological brothers and sisters, but also with siblings born of his mother’s close friendship with John Q. and Carol M. Lucky (both deceased). As the youngest of his biological siblings, Butchie was affectionately “spoiled” with love, attention, and care—a gift he returned freely throughout his life. That deep sense of family stayed with him into adulthood and extended to his children and grandchildren, bringing warmth, pride, and resilience to every chapter of his life.

Butchie graduated from Rhodes High School and proudly served in the United States Army from 1987 to 1991. He married his high school sweetheart, Paula Coleman Granville, in 1987. Though later separated, they remained friends throughout his life. Together they shared two children, George Granville III (Tish) and Dauntia Tashe Granville, and two cherished grandchildren, Ian Joshua Granville and Noah Isaiah Granville. Butchie was also blessed with two additional sons, Xavier Geony Granville (Ebony Jones) and Nicholas Danyel Granville (April Perkins). His children and grandchildren were the center of his world, and he was immensely proud of each of them.

George “Butchie” Granville is lovingly remembered by his siblings: Kevin Edmondson; Ernest Edmondson; Clarence Edmondson (Donna); William Edmondson (Carolyn); Barbara Edmondson Gordon (Alfred); and Sabrina Edmondson. He is also fondly remembered by his Lucky siblings: Beverly Dozier (James); Teresa Lucky; Keith Lucky; Dwayne Lucky; D’Juana Wade (Bryan); Stephanie Lucky-Anderson (Michael); and Demetrius Lucky (Diane). He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Hardy Ingram, Jr. and Michael Edmondson; Mom and Dad Lucky; and brothers Robert Lucky and Gregory Allen Lucky. His memory will forever be honored by those who loved him, including several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Those who knew Butchie will remember his infectious laughter, quick wit, teasing, kindness, and genuine love for people. He was known for his devotion to the Cleveland Browns, his appreciation for good music and good food, and his love of having a good time shared with family and friends. He also had a passion for fishing and bowling. He was a longtime member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio, and faithfully participated in online services from his son George Granville III’s church. For many years, Butchie worked in construction, taking pride in honest work and perseverance.

While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life rich with meaningful relationships, shared experiences, compassion, and love. George “Butchie” Granville’s legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the stories that will continue to be told, and the memories that will always be cherished. He will be deeply missed—but his story, his laughter, and his love will carry on, always.
