George was born December 7, 1944 to the late George Delma and Mary E. Higgins in Camp Hill, Alabama. George was proceeded in death by four of his siblings. Earnest Barney Higgins, Thomas Sylvester Higgins, Mary Frances Anderson, Dorothy Jean Lurns, and his grandson Craig Cortner III. George married Hazel Robinson on December 29, 1965. Of this union was born Beverly Denise Smith, Alicia Meshell Higgins, April Lynette Higgins-Sanders. George enjoyed golfing early in life. He enjoyed social gatherings with friends and family. He loved watching TV, politics, and being in debates. George started working at Ford Motor Co in 1971 and retired in 1996.
He leaves to cherish his memory his brother Willie (Zerita) Horace Higgins, Hazel Higgins, daughters Beverly (Melvin) Smith, Alicia Higgins, April Higgins-Sanders. Grandsons Cory D Higgins, Christopher Persons, Antwan Person. Granddaughters Derricka (Logan) Farrell, Amber Smith, Cortney Dearing. Great grandkids Kilen Jackson Higgins , Craig Cortner IV, Reia Cortner, Cree Cortner. A host of nieces , nephews, and other relatives and friends.
