H.C. HARDAWAY Obituary

H.C., lovingly known as Doc and Bo-Dilley to many, was born on February 12, 1939 in Luthersville, Georgia, to the late J.C. and Lottie Hardaway. H.C. accepted Christ at an early age and was the eighth child of thirteen. In 1958, Bo-Dilley. graduated from Central High School in Newnan, Georgia. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Ohio with his brother Johnnie Melvin (aka Papa Joe), to find employment. He later moved to Long Island, New York where he met Theresa Love. After just six months, their hearts grew so intertwined and they knew their love was meant to last a lifetime. Without hesitation, the two were married on December 15, 1961. To that union four children were born. H.C. was a great man, a provider, wise father and loving husband. After a few years the couple relocated to Cleveland, Ohio where Doc worked for many years at I. Schumann & Company and retired after 30 years. Doc has been a member of Alcoholics Anonymous with 44 years of sobriety, to date. During his time in AA, he led many men and women through their sobriety. He was very social, active, and deeply involved in serving and supporting friends and family for the majority of his life. In his free time, Doc enjoyed fishing, sports, fellowship with family & friends and was known for playing his favorite card games, Bid Whist and Spades. Friends and family know that he lovingly talked trash to anyone he played against. You couldn’t tell him that he wasn’t the best player at either card game. Those who knew and loved H.C., will always remember him as “Doc”, “Bo”, “Bo-Dilley”, “Unc,” “Dad,” “Woo Woo,” and “Grandad”. No matter what name, we love him the same. H.C. Hardaway was a person who was extremely hard working, supportive, and caring for all of his family and friends. He completed his journey on this Earth on February 2, 2025 at University Hospital with family by his side. H.C. is survived by his wife of 61 years, Theresa; three children, Cassandra Hardaway (Landon), Valerie Hardaway, Stephen Hardaway (Tina) twelve grandchildren, Taresha, Ramone, Sharde, Larenzo, Devin, Ray, Keeada, Nya, Najee, Nasim, O’Naje, and Asianae, twelve great-grandchildren; Rakaysia, Diora, Jayla, Raegan, Jamari, Deven, Jamir, Logan, Nova, Kamari, Noelle, and Nyleah. Two siblings, Douglas “Mac” Thrash (Vicky), Robert Hardaway and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. H.C. is preceded in death by his parents, J.C. & Lottie Hardaway, his siblings; Lenell Colton, Thomas Hardaway, Johnnie Melvin Hardaway, Hulit Hardaway, Berutha Hardaway-Godfrey, Leola Hardaway, Mary Ann Hardaway, Christine Hardaway-Pace, John Lee Hardaway & John E.
