John Porter Obituary

John’s Journey

John Jerome Prater, a beacon of love and courage, passed away on December 21, 2025, at the age of 63. Born on October 3, 1962, in Cleveland, Ohio, John's life was a symphony of joyous melodies and inspiring rhythms that emanated from his very core. He departed this world in Medina, Ohio, leaving behind a legacy of spirited kindness and unwavering bravery, having peacefully succumbed to natural causes. John was an individual whose presence was a source of comfort and motivation. He was a son of the late John James Prater and Evelyn Sam Easley, both of whom instilled in him the values of love and determination that he carried throughout his life. He was a cherished brother to Kim Prater (Eppinger Black), Candace Prater (Thompson), Duvarol Prater (Scherry), Cindy Prater, and Deanna Ruth Henderson. Each sibling, as well as his adoring nieces and nephews, felt the warmth of his generous spirit and they will always carry a piece of his heart with them. Music was John's solace and his passion. It was in the harmonies and lyrics where he found his peace and his purpose. To John, a song was not just a collection of notes, but a narrative of life's triumphs and tribulations, a universal language that connected souls. His love for music was evident to all of us. Courageous in the face of life's challenges, he faced each day with an unwavering optimism that inspired those around him. As Helen Keller once said, "Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence." John lived by these words, exuding hope and confidence that became the hallmark of his existence. Today, we celebrate John Jerome Prater—not in mourning, but with the joy and celebration that he would have wanted. His life was a testament to the power of positivity and the strength of the human spirit. While he may have left the physical world, his spirit remains immortalized in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy is not one of sorrow but one of motivation, urging us all to embrace life with love, spirit, and courage. As we bid farewell to John, let us not say goodbye but rather choose to honor his memory by living as he did—with a song in our hearts and an unwavering belief in the goodness of life. Let us carry forward the melody of his existence, for in doing so, we ensure that the music of John Jerome Prater plays on for generations to come.
