Obituary for John Wheeler
February 24, 1928 - July 3, 2021
John Wheeler, 93 years old was born on February 24, 1928, in Montgomery, Alabama. He was one of seven children born to the late Emma and David Wheeler of Alabama. He came to Cleveland, Ohio where he met the love of his life. Dorothy Mae Arnold (b.k.a. DOT) (deceased) and they married on March 8, 1952. This union was blessed with six children. John did know God and he was saved.
John worked at Forest City Foundries for 35 years. During this time he found one of his passions, he was elected as the Union President of Local 1605 U.A.W. and he proudly served in this position for 25 years. This gave him the opportunity to showcase his debating skills. Our Dad loved to debate. If you ever had a conversation with him, you would know.
He was kind, generous, and all who knew him loved him. He was a strong man, a man's man, a quiet man, an honorable man, and good- hearted man, we could go on and on because there is so much we could tell you about him. But know if he told you something you'd better pay attention, and not make the same mistake twice. He would offer you his opinion whether you wanted it or not. But we all know, it was all in love. He loved his family and was crazy about his grand, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
When John retired from Forest City Foundries that’s when his true passions kicked in. He loved fixing things; he was a master plumber, carpenter, auto mechanic, builder, and gardener. Self-taught, he knew how to do so many things. Let's just say, he was truly a Jack-of-all-Trades.
John departed this Life on Saturday, July 3rd after a brief illness.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Wheeler, son John Junior Wheeler, daughter Louvenia Graham, his five brothers, Willie Sims, Rev. George Wheeler, James Wheeler, Joseph Wheeler, Abraham Wheeler, and two sisters, Eula Baker, Annie Bell Carter.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his children; Ada Mae, Alfonso, Joe Ann (Henry), Lindy, David, Darryl (Toni) and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, sister- in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, who will all be left with a number of great memories.
DAD, WE LOVE YOU ALWAYS!
