Kevin Johnson was born on October 19, 1962 to the union of Jean Mitchell and Ervin Johnson, in Cleveland, Ohio.
He accepted Christ at an early age, even though he’d save the money given him for the collection plate to buy candy and chips after Sunday, service. He received formal education through Cleveland Public Schools, going on to graduate as a Tiger from Warrensville Heights, High School. From there he went on to serve in the United States Army.
Kevin met Celestine Sargeant in 1989. To this union came 4 sons: Kevin, Keith, and Kenneth Johnson and last but not least, Kyle Sargeant. In continuum of this family, he was blessed with bonus children he loved as his own: Sherita, Monica, Celeste, David, Jamil and Miracle.
Kevin was a master builder, carpenter, mechanic, plumber, and pipefitter. He had the innate ability to measure things simply by looking at them, and quickly diagnose vehicle issues by listening and/or a brief verbal description. He truly enjoyed the company of family and friends. He was the neighborhood comedian and life of the party, as he engaged in his creature comforts of listening to old school music, barbecuing and fishing. All the while, he’d be telling his stories to anyone who would listen. Much of the time he was playfully “signifying”, but no matter what, he’d always have an audience to hang on to his every word. He was the kind of man who filled the room with joy, humor, and love. There was always a joke to share with his contagious laugh to follow.
Kevin is survived by his sisters: Pamela Brown, Quita Edwards and Tracy Hale. Brother: Keith Johnson, all his aforementioned children, grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. As we all loved him so. He will be truly missed.
