Lieutenant Tommie Long Obituary

We come together to celebrate the life of a remarkable man, Tommie Alfred Long, affectionately known as Bobby. He was a pillar of strength, a beacon of wisdom, and an embodiment of love. Born on March 5, 1952, in Jefferson, Alabama, Bobby was a man who left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him. He passed away peacefully of natural causes on February 10, 2025, in Cleveland, Ohio.

Bobby's early years in Jefferson laid the foundation for a life of service and dedication. He carried the spirit of his birthplace with him as he pursued higher education at Ohio State University. It was there that he honed the skills and knowledge that would serve him throughout his illustrious career. Bobby's commitment to his community was unwavering. He joined the Cleveland Police Department and, through hard work and dedication, rose through the ranks to become a respected Lieutenant. His colleagues remember him as a man of integrity and honor.

Family was the cornerstone of Bobby's life. He was a loving father to six children—Bernadette, Wanda, Raymos, John, and Jeremey, and he held dear the memory of his son Thomas, who predeceased him. Bobby's legacy continued to flourish through his 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, each of whom he cherished deeply. His siblings—Ricky, Wayne, Huey, and Marylin—alongside several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, were integral parts of his life's journey, sharing in the joys and sorrows that weave the tapestry of family.

Beyond his professional achievements and family commitments, Bobby was a man of many passions. He had an eye for beauty, which he expressed through his love of photography. Many will remember the way his eyes lit up behind the camera lens, capturing moments that would last a lifetime. His garden was a testament to his patience and care, each plant nurtured by his attentive hands. Grilling was not just a pastime for Bobby; it was an opportunity to gather loved ones and savor the simple pleasures of life. And on the water, with a fishing rod in hand, he found tranquility and a connection to the natural world that was deeply spiritual.

Those who knew Bobby would describe him as loving, selfless, and wise. He had a unique ability to listen deeply and offer advice that seemed to cut through the noise of life's challenges. As the American poet Maya Angelou once said, "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time." Bobby showed us all who he was through his actions, his kindness, and his unwavering commitment to bettering the lives of those around him.

As we say goodbye to Tommie Alfred Long, to the man we all knew as Bobby, let us carry forward the lessons he taught through the way he lived his life. Let us remember the laughter shared around the grill, the quiet moments of reflection by the waterside, the joy of a family united, and the pride in a community served with honor. Bobby's journey on this earth may have come to a close, but his spirit, his love, and his wisdom will continue to guide us. May we honor his memory by living with the same generosity and selflessness that he embodied every day.

To Bobby, a loving father, a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather, a dear brother, and a trusted friend, we bid a heartfelt farewell. Your legacy will live on in the lives you've touched and the love you've given. Rest in peace, and know that you are deeply missed.
