Louise Young Obituary

Louise Young

July 21, 1932 — September 26, 2019

Mrs. Louise Young, daughter of the late Jasper McMillan and Rachel McMillan, was born July 21, 1932 in Selma, Alabama. Louise accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized on September 19, 1946 at Little Cannon Primitive Baptist Church. She later relocated to Palatka, Florida where she united with another Primitive Baptist Church and served faithfully there until moving to Cleveland, Ohio in 1956. On April 23, 1956, Louise united with New Sardis Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. A.J. WW. Warren. At New Sardis she served faithfully as a member of the Dorcas Society, Noon-day Bible Study, Adult Choir, Women’s Ministry, Pastor’s Aid Ministry (Sister Young was a strong supporter of Pastor Tatum from his initial visit to Cleveland from Virginia in 1988 until her passing), and the Bus Ministry until her health did not allow her to do so. While serving in the Bus Ministry, Louise acquired the name of “The Hostess with the Mostest” because of the extraordinary service that she rendered to those traveling on bus trips and because of her incomparable hospitality. Not only was she faithful in her service to her local church but she was also active on the state and national level. Louise’s favorite scripture was Psalm 23.

She was married to Eddie Bolden on January 6, 1955 and this union was blessed with 3 children, Cussetta, Eddie, Jr. (deceased), and Maurice. Eddie preceded her in death. On March 24, 1987, Louise married Herbert C. Young who also preceded her in death.

Louise was educated at R. B. Hudson High School in Selma. She later received her Nursing License and was employed at several nursing facilities in Cleveland. She retired from the Visiting Nurse Association of Ohio and Personal Touch Home Care in 2009.

Louise never met a stranger; she had a contagious smile, a big heart, was full of laughter, spunk and energy. As a result of the way that she lived her Christian life, she was loved by many and will forever remain in the lives of those who knew her. On Thursday morning, September 26, 2019, she departed this life and entered into her eternal life at Fairfax Nursing Facility, Cleveland, OH.

She was preceded in death by her son, Eddie Bolden, Jr.; a brother, Edward McMillan; and two sisters, Dorothy and Frankie. After the death of her baby sister, she raised her nephew, Jason Edwards.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Callens (Mary), and Maurice Bolden of Cleveland; five daughters, Patricia McMillan, NY; Mertis McMillan, VA; Marcia Edwards, AL; Kathy Austin, FL; and Cussetta Bolden, GA.; brother, Robert McMillan (Janet); sister, Mildred Ridgeway; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
