Lucille Ella Davis was born on February 20th, 1930. She was born on Sunview Ave in Miles Heights, Cleveland, Ohio. She was the seventh and youngest child of John Wesley and Ida Mae (Robinson) Davis. She lived many of the last several years with her youngest brothers Bertram and Bernard. Ultimately, at 92 years old, she outlived all of her siblings.
Lucille married Irvin Holmes around 1948 and was blessed with 5 children, Irvin Wesley, Valerie, Lawrence Allen, Ida Mae Victoria, and Carlo. They were able to build a small home and held many jobs despite the fact that both had limited schooling. Lucille was able to get her GED and many certificates. She held many health care positions and managed to care for her children and many nieces and nephews, grandchildren, foster children and adults. She spent most of her life in her house on Clearview Ave with most of her siblings nearby. She married and divorced Joe Williams later in life but kept the last name Williams.
Her last years were spent in Woodside Senior Assisted Living, in her own apartment that looked like her house, burgundy curtains, silk flowers and all. She found many friends and acquaintances there. Lucille had many ailments and allergies, rheumatoid arthritis, and many joint replacements. She also was a breast cancer survivor. She truly mastered movement and was able to walk 200 feet to the dining room 2 times per day for the last 4 years.
Lucille loved God and professed her faith in her conversation. She was a member of several churches throughout her life. She loved music, loved to party and dance, sing and crochet and she loved gadgets. She was always dressed and ready to go at the spur of the moment. She loved going to going to church, to anybody’s funeral, visiting family and friends and hosting gatherings. Many adopted her as mom, grandma, sister or aunt due to her endearing spirit and she could make you laugh. She was no pushover though!
She was preceded in death by her children Lawrence Allen Holmes, Carlo Holmes and Ida Mae (Vicky) Cummings. She leaves her sister in law and close friend Teruko Davis, her children Irvin Wesley Holmes (Teresa), Valerie Lee(Larry), grandchildren Lejla Jones(Tyree), Robert Holmes, Christopher Holmes (Kaitlin), Charles Cummings, Marcellus Cummings (Tara), Joy Holmes, Carmella Upshur, Krystyle Holmes, Mia Jones. Many great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and friends, members of Olivet Baptist church.
Thanking all staff who helped her in her Assisted Living Facility including Kathy Thomas, Carolyn and many others there, Mary Champer from Western Reserve and her doctor Constance Margoulias.
She is the last of a generation and will be greatly remembered and greatly missed.
