Mary Ferguson, a beacon of unwavering faith and boundless love, was called to her eternal home on January 16, 2026, in Cleveland, Ohio, after a brave battle with critical illness. Born on April 28, 1940, in the quaint town of Lynch, Kentucky, Mary was the cherished daughter of Benjamin and Mildred Ruffin. Her life was a testament to the power of devotion, both to her family and to her faith.
In 1955, Mary's heart found its match in Norman Eugene Ferguson, affectionately known as Gene. Their loving union was graced with two children, Mildred Jean Gulley (Cookie) and Norman Gary Ferguson, who in turn blessed Mary with three grandchildren—Trisha Roberts, the late Adam Gulley, and Aron Gulley. Her joy was further multiplied by the presence of her devoted son-in-law, Danial Gulley.
Mary was the beloved sister to Jackie, Cora, Linda, Charlette, and Rita, and the late Rose, Benny Jr., Jimmy, and James. She was a cherished aunt to her nieces Lisa (and spouse Jeff), Monica, Monique, Angel, Kimberly, Carla, and Jennifer, and to her nephews Lee, the late Anthony, James (with Latasha), Joshua, Timothy Jr, and Brandon. She was also a treasured matriarch to a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, family, and friends who were drawn to her warmth and wisdom.
Educated in Kentucky, Mary carried the lessons of her youth throughout her life, weaving them into the fabric of her daily existence. She was the matriarch of her family, a homemaker whose hands were never too busy for a hug and whose heart was always open to listen and love. Her Christian faith was the cornerstone of her existence, and she lived her life as a reflection of the love she found in her relationship with the Lord. She studied the Bible with fervor, finding in its pages the strength and guidance that she generously shared with all who knew her.
Mary's passions were as vibrant as her spirit. She reveled in the soothing melodies of jazz music, the joy of dance, and the thrill of a shopping adventure. Her collection of lucky elephants stood as a symbol of her belief in good fortune and the power of positive thinking.
