Tavarus Deontay Ellis, Sr. was born on October 15, 1992 in Ashtabula, Ohio to the parents of Terri Ellis and Kym Foster and raised by his Dad Darryl McCluney Sr. His Heavenly Father called him home on Saturday, April 3, 2021.
Tavarus is known by his middle name Deontay and affectionately known as Dee to his family and friends. He accepted Christ and was baptized as a teenager. Deontay was one of 4 children by his mother, the youngest of 8 siblings from his biological father and the eldest brother of his 2 sisters from his Dad’s blended family. As a little boy he was playful and rambunctious, but always had a gentle spirit. As Deontay evolved into a man the one thing that remained the same was his gentle spirit and loving heart. He was a hard working father, loving son, brother, uncle, protector, and family man. He enjoyed hanging with his family. He was always joking around with his siblings at family functions
He was the ultimate joker, always clowning around; taunting and harassing his nieces and nephews; like any good uncle would! He enjoyed video games and basketball, the sport he excelled most at was slamming SWEETS! He took pride in being a great father. Saturdays were Deontay’s designated day for family time. Whether it was going to get ice cream or a trip to the trampoline park he ensured he spent quality time with his boys! Wrestling and video games were also routine activities but education took precedence as reflected by TJ knowing his multiplication tables! Last but not least, no was not an option for Deontay when called upon by a family member or friend in need, showing up for others is what he did best!
In 2010, Deontay graduated from South Euclid’s Charles F. Brush High School. His work history began as an employee of his mother’s cleaning business. He helped her to manage the business by assisting with payroll and writing proposals. Ultimately Deontay helped her take her passion for cleaning to a professional level. He was found to be mechanically inclined at an early age by fixing and repairing things alongside his Dad. As a young adult he was challenged with finding his passion; but through the guidance and support offered by Eric, a close family friend he was connected to contracting work. Deontay soon discovered his passion was commercial and residential remodeling. His skills were developed by his mentors Kent and Tony. Once he made that transition from young man to adulthood he began working as a subcontractor developing his skills in HVAC, dry walling, painting and electrical work. Deontay started his own business TDE Drywall, LLC in August 2020 and was days shy of completing his enrollment in HVAC School. He too had plans on professionalizing his business by getting his certifications. He was just hitting his stride to becoming a successful entrepreneur. He is gone too soon!
Deontay leaves to cherish his memory 2 sons Tavarus Jr. and Tyrus, loving Mother Terri, Father Kym, his Dad Darryl Sr. (Felicia), siblings, Tiairra, Shannon, Tionna, Sharneice, Darryl Jr., Stephanie, Jasmine and 8 other siblings from Virginia, his children’s mother LaShay and her other son Tristian, his aunts Tracie and Tonya and a host of other uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
