On Friday July, 10, 2020 at age 90, God summoned another angel, Vera Fanny King into heaven. Vera was born August 25, 1929 in Battle Creek, Michigan. She was one of three children born to the union of the late James and Thelma (Wells) Montgomery.
Vera accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age. She received her formal education in Battle Creek, Michigan public school system. After graduation she moved to Toledo, Ohio. Here she met her husband the late Rev. Paul Alexander King, and was united in holy matrimony on July 15. 1954. On October 5, 1961 Victoria Paulette King was born. God blessed their union with a daughter. Next, the family moved to Cleveland, Ohio and joined the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church Under the leadership of the late Rev Luther Hill
She was well known city-wide for her beautiful anointed soprano voice. Oh how she could usher the spirit in. She rendered music at various special events (conferences, church anniversaries, birthday celebrations, prison ministry, funerals, and choir anniversaries). People were always blessed especially when she would sing the song ”Walk on by Faith Each Day.” Vera was a charter member of the Inspirational Choir. She was recruited to sing in the inspirational Choir by Director Jeannie Sharp. Jeannie had heard Vera sing at an event and was impressed and blessed by her singing. She rendered 35 years plus of music with the choir until her health declined. The choir traveled and rendered music at many annual events, states, and other places. (VA Hospital, Warrensville Developmental Center, Detroit, Michigan, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Toronto, Montreal, multiple cities in Ohio, Akron, East Liverpool, Youngstown, Elyria, Wellsville, Cleveland) Her husband the Rev. Paul King accepted an associate pastoral position at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Luther C. Daniels. Vera moved her membership to the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and joined the “Voices of Praise Choir” under the music direction of Brenda Robertson. She was a faithful member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church under the new leadership Rev. Dwayne Simmons until her health declined. Vera was a loving mother, grand, and great grandmother. She loved the Lord with all of her heart and gave him praise even when she was wheelchair bound. Everyone that met Vera enjoyed her pleasant personality. She had a beautiful smile and contagious laugh. God has called her home now where she can sing with the heavenly angels and walk the Streets of gold. “Well done good and faithful servant” She fought a good fight.
Vera was preceded in death by parents, James and Thelma Montgomery, sisters; Lillian, McCree, Peggy West, husband; Rev. Paul Alexander King.
She leaves to morn daughters Victoria King, Pearline Byrd, son; Paul Jr. (Jeanetta) King, grandchildren; Tre’, Kimberly, Brian and Maria, Great Grandchildren Deandre, Jah’merre, Deasianaye, Jae’vion, Brandyn, Kaidance, and a host of nieces, nephews, Cousins
