In the beginning...

William A. Gaines, a renowned Funeral Director and Embalmer in the city of Cleveland for more than 50 years, met Rosa M. Kirby in 1966. They both worked at Ball Funeral Home. The two were joined in marriage in 1968 and shared a dream of owning their own funeral home. The dream came to pass in 1972 when they went into business for themselves. The company was the Wm. A. Gaines Funeral Home and Ambulance Service.

With Mr. Gaines known for his excellent embalming skills and Mrs. Gaines for her outstanding speaking ability, the husband and wife team began building their business. Over the years the two have managed to stay active in the community, helping as many families as they could and maintaining the business as well. The sacrifices made and the struggles of working seven days a week, 24hrs. a day has grown into a 42 year old phenomenal organization.

After a lengthy illness Mr. Gaines was called to eternal rest January 7, 2006. His memories and legacy cherished by his wife Rosa of 36 years, children, grandchildren, other relatives and many, many friends. Ten years into the second generation Mrs. Gaines remained CEO of the funeral home until her health failed. She was called from labor to reward July 7, 2007.

In an ongoing effort, the Family works diligently to maintain and keep the outstanding reputation for being fair and honest. We are deeply grateful to have served this community for the past 42 years. We want to assure all of greater Cleveland with strong resolve, we prayerfully pledge to continue rendering the same caring, compassionate and quality service. The William A. Gaines Funeral Home is proudly celebrating our 38th Anniversary. We want to thank our friends like you for helping us reach this important milestone. Please be assured that we will do our best to earn your continued confidence and goodwill.
